The future is here....well its on its way

Hi,

One of the things I love doing is to peep into the future of technology. Blessed with zero engineering background, its fun to imagine would could be...cos I am too ignorant to know what CAN'T be. For me I have written for some time, that the future of technology is in embedded technology. The internet used to stream data from machine to machine and human consumption will rapidly reduce. Imagine I have a video calling bell. When someone rings the bell my cell phone rings and I can see who it is. And depending on who it is, I press a button and the door opens. Of course this is just the beginning.
Another thing I often thought about is mobility. There are so many things you can do on the road these days. I want my soho to have wheels. I want to be able to park and sleep/ work in ac comfort. But where will the power come from?
The future car engines must have a mode where a car can be stationary and provide power for things that one can do.

Freakonomics Octroi Road Tax and Drugs

Have you ever wondered why every state insists of collecting road tax every time you move to a new state? Or why there is a long que at every inter-state check post? The book Freakonomics say that we must find the connection between things. To me the reason for this post is an article I read in the Times of India, about a young British girl who was raped and killed. The article it says that

The legitimisation of drugs is not a moral issue; it is an economic issue. There is just too much money to be made in drugs — by drug lords, dealers, pushers and corrupt law enforcement officials — for the trade ever to be legalised, thereby bringing down prices hugely and putting paid to corruption

It certainly rang a bell. I guess it also has to do with the fact that I made THREE visits to the RTO in bangalore to transfer my car from Jamshedpur. I have been approached by agents who make it difficult to even reach the counters. The going rate is 4-5 k "service charge and official expenses ". I remember that the government once made an attempt to do away with OCTROI in Bombay when all the Octroi employees went on strike!!

Ending corruption is also about removing the reasons for it to exist. Please get rid of corruption at RTO as a first step. Make it free for someone to drive a car anywhere in india once life time tax is paid. I sent a letter to the supreme court about this and am still waiting for a response! Ha ha ha . I guess the last laugh is on me!
