Is it over?
I do not believe that I will ever see anything as amazing as the Internet in my life time. Free speech is no longer a concept to be debated about. It was there. And if you didn't like it you could use NET NANNY. In 2003, when the Indian Govt. blocked yahoo groups because they were discussing some political issues (Click here to read) it had the same effect of banning a book or a movie... immediately the group got publicity and its cause was highlighted.
At a time when new domain names like .asia (.pdf file) is opening up and Internet 2 just got 10 times faster.. the Governments are trying to tame the new frontier in the same way they tamed the "New World". India Government is considering a new policy which makes it CRIMINAL to provide false information for registering an internet identity. OMG, that means I will have to give up all those interesting chat ids like "fat_ugly_middleaged".
And finally, I hear that Wikipedia is going through a middle age crisis (read about it here). I guess its too premature to shut off my monitor and reach for a book?

I was planning to comment on your blog but then I found this 'comment moderation' bit quite hypocritical. For someone who waxed eloquently on freedom of speech, to moderate comments that readers might put about his blog just plain stinks. Well you might argue that you are only trying to block abusive, pointless etc etc type of comments. But then your readers will never be able to verify that unless they can have access to the comments that you have chosen not to appear. For all they know you might be only be letting those comments through that agree with your views with a few occasional ones that do not to appear impartial. I suggest you practice what you preach.
Ok. What if I said that I would publish any comment that has an identifiable id to it? Here is the thing. If you need to speak to me you can do so in many ways. If you need to speak to the world about me. You can do so too. But what if you want the audience to be defined by me "those who read my blog" and the content delivered by you......AND you dont have the guts to sign your name?
Isn't that pushing freedom of speech too much? Do you also recommend I leave ALL comments on the site IRRESPECTIVE of what it contains? BTW please send me your mail id so we can discuss this off line?
AS OF NOW COMMENTS ARE ENABLED AGAIN! ONLY because you had the courage to identify yourself.
That was nice of you sir. My mail ID is punnu.b@gmail.com. Looking forward to hearing from you.
