Proud to be an Indian!

...that was the title of the email I received. It talked about how G Vaidyaraj, discovered two large diamonds. Apparently they were worshipped for centuries in his household and no one knew they were diamonds until recently. Fortunately Mr. Vaidyaraj never asked for his share of treasure that he found... or he would have bankrupt the entire country... because

" .... The cost of single diamond exceeds the GDP of USA + UK.
India can buy virtually 7 developing nations...."

I decided to do a little bit of I-Arch (what I call Internet Archeology) to find out more about this and I typed in "proud to be indian" and I found out that this is a mantra that is chanted again and again, as if it took some repetition before you could believe it?

Google said "proud to be indian" has been indexed 14, 300 times.

Not happy with that, I did some cybersearching on G Vaidyaraj and his diamonds. Vaidraj + diamonds yeilded only 976 results. But its amazing to take a look at what they are. Click on the previous link to see the results. While the whole email was pasted virtually everwhere, no one had either proved or disproved the claims mentioned in it. I guess we believe what we want to believe. So I recommend if you want to find diamonds that are that big, you have to go here. In the meantime I keep getting tons of forwards about the greatness of India and Hinduism. STOP dont you know its EMPTY vessels that make more sound?

Mathai

PS. If you want to hear a more credible story about an Indian diamond, try The Great Mogul Diamond, by clicking here! Its a story waiting to be made into a book like dan brown or a modern version of Indiana Jones.

look, are you the empty vessel? it is great to empty yourself? but will you remain to be a vessel? is hinduism a vessel? is it possible to make noise about truth? is truth a blog? space does not make noise. vessels do not make noise. nor does greatness or huinduism need to make noise. who are we to say or determine with petty development and evolution of 40-70 (your age)odd years about something you know nothing about!

Aha, I knew I would touch of some raw nerves by the very mention of this jingoism. I fully agree that I know nothing about somethings, but I also know that the authors of such junk mail know less than me. Now thats a thought. What is less than nothing? Negative knowledge?

Oh thank god u said it! how could anybody be as dumb as that? In the mail i got, 3 stones had been discovered. If this goes on, the person would be discovering 333 diamonds and whose worth would be the combined GDP of the Earth and Mars too. And with that we could buy the whole universe with the black hole as an added incentive.

Anyway, if they were worth so much, who the hell is gonna buy them and make India so rich??????????

And about what the anonynous guy said........where the hell did hinduism creep in from?

This chain mail must be the mother of all chain mails!! Of course, it beats the $1 Million currency note that was floating around a year ago!! But what is this bullshit about keeping the diamonds in Swiss Bank - especially when you are proud to be an Indian? Who the hell is going to steal and who can afford to buy it? Since the same stuff is pasted on all the web pages (somebody try and find the source) more and more people are going to talk about and god knows they will start one more story on it!!!

Impressed.. or what else, just recieved an astounding mail glorifying the Indian pride or what was it?? as a "true netizen" couldnt help googling and froogling about "sudarshan" and "vaidyaraj" who have made India proud!!!!lo, i fumbled across this bloggspot, read the random lines n thoughts.im wondering whether or not to join this blog or simply sit coz India is already rich n we are gonna be buying 10 Bill Gates!!! since when have we "proud to be ... Indians" started buying people???n for chrisakes, please lets start working-sincerely,focussed and coherently rather than simply circulate a bunch of tall tales of what we used to be. we are nothing now, lets not get carried away by the gowth rates we may have achieved.

Neha you are very right. can i contact u anywhere. we can discuss more about this ? Thank you

But do you all know that India has actually got more diamonds than any other country? India has the highest young population who can do wonders and make India the richest country. The only problem is the bunch of people leading the nation are not good Joharees....Surekha.

About the post by Surekha, it seems like it just similar to the Vaidyaraj diamond claim. You see diamonds only by hard work and stroke of luck, not by following chain emails. Such insecurity !!!Jesus Christ give me a break!!!

WOW one of the things about these internet forwards is that it never ends, keeps on going round and round and round and round. How many of us remember the emails that keep going round and round. I loved the one that told me about a virus that I had to physically delete, and it turned out to be a system file that windows used!

Hey did you see the website www.betteruse.org?
Some rich Indian living in Switzerland has put an ad to give away his young wife! He says he doesn't need her anymore so she will be better used by somebody else than himself. He is a true beleiver of recycling.
Can you believe it?

India is great & so are its Indians.

I received the mail about these diamonds too and I got only one thing to add. Conjecture can never be a substitute for truth. Moreover what benefit can the diamonds do ( if this is true) by sitting in the swiss bank, when there is still a large percentage of people in India still struggling for daily livelihood. I sincerely appeal to all Indians and also to all humanity to stop believing in all this kind of bullshit and work hard and together so that this world becomes a better place to live in with much better people in it.

A bit about oil reserve. It is true that India has Oil reserve in some part of the country, and ONGC persons has identified it. But our government has kept it as reserve. But some of those lands are later leased to foreign companies (Shell) for 100 Years. This is the cheap political gain of the bloody political pimps!

I totally agree to the fact that google offers little help in hunting down the truth. We are so annoyed with the state of affairs that we wish something imaginary that would turn India around...But there is a limit to the wildest of imaginations...Here it goes like 'Imagine India, submerged in debts becomes the riches country overnight'....Well, kudos to those who could patiently put in all those imaginations together in a mail and - God bless India

If India has to become great we have to stop day dreaming and really work! The so called child wizard "Sudarshan" reminds me of a great name in science. I mean Prof. Geogre Sudarshan, the famous fundamental particle physicisit(he was awarded padma vihushan this year)was the first to theroetically propopund the possibiliy of tacheons (particles with velocity exceeding that of light) in 1958 while working in the Tata Instiutue of Fundamenatal Research in Bombay. This is an accepted proposition now in fundamnental particle physics.

Oh my God...What happened to Indians...why such junk mails to make us proud of what...An absolute nonsense that even makes me feel bad about Indians...and their attitudes...

Anonymous said...

that mail is baseless...if its such a big news, why it is not coming out oficially? And the mail says, our PM will sell when we'll have problems, and he thinks we dont...give me a break..everyone knows we have lot of problems..secondly the mail says India's GDP is 35 billion dollars...i think the creater of mail dont know about the country's vital stats..india's GDP is more than 630 billion USD and bills gate's personal wealth is about 45 billion, not 95 billion....before being proud to be anything, we need to know the facts and figures...better use your creativity in something productive not making such junk mails...no one will be proud of us doing that...

Hi,
I do not go to blogs and participate for lack of time or interest. However, I was cleaning up my computer and found this saved for further investigation as I had received this mail several months ago.

Today during my search for its veracity I found this blog and I must say that though our arrogance of "being Indian" is more emotional than rational, I am glad there are saner voices - makes me proud more than the diamond would ever have.

I however do recall the Times of India reporting that a family in Bangalore worshipped a stone which ended up being a very expensive Ruby. That was in the press over a decade back. I would really appreciate if anyone else heard of this to corroborate. It would make a great story no doubt, but definitely not one to be proud of as a nation.

Our GDP is irrelevant if you walk into the country and feel the shame when you come from elsewhere. It is like walking into a dirty room. Those who live there do not notice and lose their sense of smell, while those who first arrive - or arrive after an absence can see it's stark reality.

Though India has made waves in the world for the strides it has taken, the fact that there are millions who have not seen the fruits of this will never rouse admiration in others. So if we want to be proud and have others see us in this light we need to clean our house and do it real fast.

No amount of spiritual boasting or cultural boast can sweep this under the carpet.

We truly do not need Mails to think we are proud to be an Indian. People post crap all over the internet. The net offers a virtual getway, where one can Literally "Get-Away" with almost anything.
The mails have no Credible & Authenticate information. Therefore, we as sane Human Beings should try to Verify the facts before blindly "Forwarding" these mails & feel "Proud" that we as Indians have done something great & maintained India's Pride.

hi Alap (indian)

i liked the comments coming from everywhere. Basically we are annoyed to feel great because of some lifeless diamonds. because we know that all of us are unpolished and dirty on the outside and very few indian diamonds have really found their lustre or try to get polished enuf to be recognised for our capabilities.
they say that our brains are part of our genes. just as we are predisposed to be struck by diabetes....
its people like annoymous who are afraid to quote their own name because then they can get away with a lot of cursing.

hi aalap this is the first time i am repling a blog. seems fun

Hi Mathai, Yes, this hoax email has been going around for few years now. All of us Indians hould read the book " Why people believe in Wierd things and superstitions of our time" By Michael Shermer . This book is an insight into why some people will believe despite the lack of real world evidence.

As an Indian Iam ashamed to see such jingosim based on rumors. It belittles India to say it is the amount of wealth that is the deciding factor to make some of these so called Indians proud!

Hi,......
I agree with you in what u said
about the largest diamonds and vaidyaraj......I would like to add some lines to your response to the gentleman who is very much worried about the empty vessel and all.......I would like to ask just one ques.........does he consider Hinduism to be so superficial that it would need a lie to stand.........Hinduism is about searching for ultimate truth and not about boasting about oneself and create false illusions.....one msg for him ...that "don't get swayed away by such shocks ....these are in noway related to the vastness and depth of Hinduism.........People don't understand the very roots and they misinterpret everything.........You would have sounded a better supporter of Hinduism if you would have used your own mind and logic to find the truth......."
